QUARTER LEATHER BINDING
SPECIFICATION A book bound in quarter leather has leather on the spine only. The rest of the book can be covered in a matching cloth or decorative paper. As with all fine bindings, the spine is solid and has a handsewn silk headband at the top and bottom. The edges may be left plain or gilt. The spine can be smooth or have raised bands, and in addition to lettering it can be decorated in a variety of ways. A quarter bound book is a more economical way of finely binding a book as it uses a conservative amount of leather, yet still looks good on the shelf.
